WORLD HERITAGE SITES FROM GREECE

The April 18 each year designated by UNESCO and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MONUMENTS AND SITES ICOMOS) as International Day of Monuments. The commemoration is intended to raise public awareness on the important issue of protection of cultural heritage. To this end run around the world on the initiative of UNESCO and ICOMOS all forms of events aim to events, not only known to the general public the importance of the monuments of each country and their problems, but also to promote the case protection and integration into the contemporary social, cultural and economic life. The Greek Section of ICOMOS, organize events every year on the occasion of the anniversary above. Under the above events in Greek ICOMOS proposed actions :

  • establishing this day as a day of free entry to monuments
  • disclosure every year on this day the list of goods of cultural heritage in danger
  • awareness of young people in the protection and conservation of monuments
